Celebrating National Mom & Pop Shop Day!

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

Supporting local businesses has never been more important than it is today. As we navigate through an increasingly globalized world, it's important to remember the vital role that small businesses play in our communities. In Celebration of National Mom and Pop Shop Day, this is your reminder of the importance of supporting small businesses and how you can do your part to help them thrive with some of our favorite small businesses featured. Spread the love and sound off in the comments with some of your favorites!

When you support local businesses, you're helping to circulate those dollars back into our community, which helps to support local economic growth vs giving that dollar to already prosperous corporate giants. By supporting local businesses, you're investing in our community and ensuring its long-term prosperity.

Your local mom and pop shops have a deep understanding of the community they serve, and they are better able to tailor their products and services to meet the needs of local consumers with the unique products and services that small businesses offer. This creates a diverse and vibrant shopping experience, which contributes to culture, and value of our neighborhoods.

Small business owners tend to have a closer connection to the community and are more likely to give back and support local causes. They typically also have a smaller environmental footprint than larger corporations, often source their materials locally, and use sustainable practices and support local environmental initiatives.

Here are some of our favorite places to #shopsmall in no particular order, they’re all hitters.

There are so many delicious coffee and tea options, Ube Drip Latte, Horchata Latte?? I mean c’mon, and the Rare Beef Pho is so fresh and flavorful and the Pâté Chaud is so home-y. The Vietnamese recipes have been passed down generations. Modern, authentic and nostalgic at the same time.

Think approachable fine dining. Gourmet dishes with a fun and casual vibe that pay tribute to its Mexican Roots. I have to order The Potato Tacos, and Kobe Beef Ravioli every time. And there’s a row of Prince portraits on the wall... I know, it's a vibe.

A versatile creative space where you can use their equipment to collaborate, create and execute your idea. Scratch that creative itch, know what I mean? I’ve seen pop up shops, photo/video shoots, podcasts. You can book the space or book a service It’s such a cool space that is affordable, and accessible.

Yooo, some of the BEST Pizza in town, go ahead and order the Spicy Conductor. There’s a diverse selection of wine; any palette will find something they’ll love. You can tour the winery, or chill and listen to some live music. It’s a great time!

Ways YOU can help.

  • Make an effort to shop at local stores and restaurants instead of big-box retailers, fast fashion and chain restaurants.

  • Word of mouth is a powerful tool for promoting local businesses. If you have a positive experience with a local business, share it with your friends and family. Write a review on Google and post it on your story!

  • Make a day of going to your local farmers market or Reno Street Fair, bring a friend or family member.

Supporting local businesses is crucial for the long-term health and prosperity of our communities. By shopping locally, spreading the word, and participating in local events, you can help to support the unique character and charm of your neighborhood while also promoting sustainable practices and economic growth. So next time you're out shopping, remember to support your local businesses and invest in the future of your community.

Cheers!
